Gary B. Maiden I discovered Woodturning by pure accident. In 2000 my father received a wood lathe for father’s day. He and I scraped out a thick chunky bowl. Though it was crude, we thought it was the Mona Lisa! At that time I had to travel back home (Harlan KY) to play with the lathe. Finally in July of 2001 I purchased a Delta bench top lathe. After I was convinced I was hooked, in the spring of 2002 I sold my fishing boat and purchased my Stubby 750. Through attending classes, watching videos, books and being a member of LAW I have improved my skills and strive to learn more. There is nothing more satisfying than taking a piece of fire wood and making a beautiful piece of ART!!!

Woodturning is DANGEROUS! This explosion cost me a trip to the ER, 9 stitches, 2 black eyes and a scar on my forehead. If not for my glasses, maybe an eye?
